#188 Fiat and Faithless = Fiatless

The youtube film above is the new Faithless single / the new Fiat Punto commercial.
Fiat and Faithless have signed, what some regard to be, "a historic deal that may signal the future of the music industry".
The full three minute "prommercial", a new word indeed, was launched during a commercial break two weeks ago and followed up by regular 30-second edits of the prommercial a week later.

Faithless, who have no record label right now, haven't received any money for this thing but consider it a great promotion for upcoming releases and a nice way to shoot a big budget video for one of their songs.
Founding Faithless member Member Sister stated: "They want to sell cars and we want to sell music, it's getting that symbiotic relationship to work, which is interesting and challenging, they wanted us to be involved in the creative process, check the script and the director and be totally involved in every way."

I'm very curious to find out how the results will be for both brand and band in the long run. If these are positive it's very possible that we'll see a lot more of these band-brand match-ups.

#187 Perfect Into the Great Wide Open (according to Jan-Willem van den Pol)

#186 The Wilderness Downtown

This popped up all over Facebook yesterday. The Wilderness Downtown by Chris Milk featuring Arcade Fire's single "We Used To Wait". I guess it can be described as an interactive music experience harnessing the powers of HTML5, which for 30+ virgins all over the world is kinda like a big deal.

Go watch!

#185 Shots Shots Shots, Yeah, What!

I know this iPhone app is way old, but I just discovered it this week. It's the Lil Jon: Official Soundboard app for iPhone. For as little as 79 Eurodollarcents you can here classics such as Yeah! and What! over-and-over-and-over-and-over again.

Lil' Jon, by the way, used to look like this (note the dutch football jacket!). Your retarded nephew might have a chance of becoming a retarded superstar after all.

#182 Das Oath Part Two

As promised: Part Two of the Das Oath Discography. The band that I, Marcel Alexander Wiebenga, was playing drums for from 2000 to 2007.
Part One can be found right here.

What we have here is the band's first full length album that came out in 2004 on Dim Mak Records. I feel that this is the best thing we've recorded.
The record features the song Awesome Rape, which was the closest thing we had to a hit. Awesome Rape eventually ended up on the Tony Hawk Underground II soundtrack. Selling out to a skateboarding game moving 3 million plus units proved very lucrative making every band member 150 dollars... yeyeah!

The writing process for this record was quite intense. Since band members came from two sides of the Atlantic, we were forced to work super fast, practicing, writing and touring Holland, Belgium, Germany and England in 7 weeks. We were playing shows on weekends, practicing two times a day during the rest of the week and finally recording for one week straight in the end.

Dim Mak records, is the super duper popular label ran by the super duper popular Steve Aoki. Who is mainly known for being a horrible DJ these days. I however like to refer to him as: "the biggest douche I've ever encountered". Up to this date he screwed the band on every form of royalties.
Seriously Steve, if you read this, and sooner or later you will when you google your own name twice a day you , you're a prick (with a really hot sister)!

Having said that. Download the record here. Enjoy and let me know what you think.

#181 Weeeeezeeeerrrr!!!

Weezer is back with a new record called Hurley.
Yes "Hurley" the big boned all surviving character on the show Lost.
Yes "Lost" the show with that horribly sloppy and disappointing ending.
Or, very smart, more like Hurley the surf and lifestyle brand that, according to guitar player Brain Bell in an interview, payed for the recording. In return they'll start selling Hurley clothing in malls(?!). If this means that Brian and River will get a daytime job I seriously doubt though.

Watch and listen to the full interview and their first single below.

*Update: Brian Bell apparently says things that are not true about Hurley the brand paying for the record. Look here.

#181 Danny de Munk en Kinder Kontjes

Sorry English reading people but this post will be in Dutch.

Fragment vanaf 14.34.

#175 Bangs Actually Might Be The Best / Worst Rapper Ever

The in the previous post mentioned Sudanese rapper Bangs turns out to be quite the internet sensation. We already discussed his lyrical styles for both the Honda commercial, as well as his hit song "Take You to The Movies". His new single is called "Meet Me On The Facebook", or as he rap/sings it "Meet me on the Faceboooooo".

He'll play both Metropolis & Lowlands Festival in 2011. You'll see.

#174 How Much Rap / Hipster Can You Pack (in yer Honda)?

Two very funny Honda commercials. Cause number 2. is pretty much who I am and number 1. is how I rap. Ask my friends... who are totally like number two.

*Just realized this guy is actually a rapper from Sudan and it is not a joke. This will probably be huge soon.
**And here's a hipster-esque vesion of the same song.

#171 These Guitars are Made for Smashing

If an idea is crazy enough, you can bet your sweet ass that it's Japanese.
So how's this for crazy: K's Japan, a Japanese giutar maker, has created a full line of guitars designed specifically for smashing them on stage. They themselves, in perfect Engrish, put it like this:

"Living in recession, having to live eco-friendly.
having to spend less to get by.
Stress is every where.
...Feel like smashing it all?

K's JAPAN invented a guitar for our times...

Born to be destroyed SMASH

Destroy old ideas to create something new.
SMASH is created upon this fundamental
rock spirit that our society seems to lack.
Smash your depression! Don't let it limit yourself."

They took the time to introduce three features of destroying:
- Destroyable Structure
- Destroyful Frying Function
- Sustainable Destroy System

Confused? Just watch this and you'll fully understand.

#166 500 Days Of Weezy and Why Zooey Deschanel is a Cunt

What do you get when you mix the soundtrack of "500 Days of Summer" with Lil' Wayne? A mash up called "500 Days of Weezy".

500 Days of Summer is a fem-dom-rom-com indierock tearjerker film bringing emo kids worldwide a slice of hope for love and a life of happiness. Come to think of it, the movie wasn't half bad, or I at least had a decent time watching it.
The 500 Days Of Summer soundtrack is not that bad as well and features The Smiths, The Black Lips, Feist (what fem-dom-rom-com indierock tearjerker film can do without) and She & Him a band that features the film's star Zooey Deschanel herself.

I saw this She & Him not so long ago in Amsterdam's Melkweg and as it turns out Zooey Deschanel is a cunt.

Fuck it I said it, rub on your titties!
She's a cunt.

I don't care how cute you appear to be, I don't care how cute you might be in all your films, liking the right music and all that. You're a cunt playing in a band that is not only horribly boring, but in the basis plays a soulless form of folkrock solely based around the popularity of you as an actress.
But mostly I feel having stage managers come out pre show to tell the audience to specifically not make any photos and to repeat that message three or four times during the show is not just plain lame, it is above all misleading and disappointing the people.

Lil Wayne however is freaking awesome, a junkie, a rapper and in jail. This is the mash up, or as creator My Sick Uncle calls it, an album about Wayne.

#165 Probably the Best (Music Related) Simpsons Joke... Ever

Bart switches the music in church to, what Revered Lovejoy calls, I. Ron Butterfly.... and a good morning to you!
