#223 The 'Beat It' Video Makes Less Sense Without The Music

#222 &Ben Folds &Nick Hornby &Pomplamoose Video Song

Writer Ben Fold hooks up with musician Nick Hornby... no wait. The other way around.

This is a video song. What is a video song?

A VideoSong is a new medium with 2 rules:
1. What you see is what you hear (no lip-syncing for instruments or voice).

2. If you hear it, at some point you see it (no hidden sounds).

#221 Hella Crazy Rock Band Drum Vid

Via @Niels Post.

A you might know. I love me some drumming and I love me some Rock Band.
The band Hella is pretty good and it' drummer Zack Hill is very close to being absolutely amazing. Above you can see them play their song Biblical Violence and beneath is a video of a computer playing that song on the Rock Band drums.
They used a computer, probably because they couldn't find anyone, except Zack Hill, to play it properly.

#217 Vybz Kartel ft. Popcaan & Vannessa Bling - Clarks

Hot tip by my friend Niels Post (@nielspost on the twitter).
It's Vybz Kartel ft. Popcaan & Vannessa Bling with their news hit song Clarks. I wonder if they got payed and I wonder if Clarks sales are skyrocketing in the Caribbean.

#216 The Intel Base Jump

The Intel Chimes is probably the leading example of how successful an audio logo can be. But besides using it as a five note composition at the end of your commercial, what else can you do with it?

Well... sometime ago in a country far far away called Finland, a couple of marketing employees thought it would be a great idea to create the logo after being shot from a couple of cannons. Watch it here if you want to understand, it's kinda hard to explain.
The people of the Romanian office came up worth the base jumping viral you see above. I guess they've found a way to make Intel look like a "fun" company with a "sense of humor" by doing these virals.

An extremely nice visualization of the musical life of Frank Zappa by artist Ward Chelly. Who also did similar paintings about counter culture and the beat generation.

#210 The Ultimate Revenge of the Nerds Featuring Trent Reznor

You know about Facebook? What am I'm saying. Of course you know about Facebook, according to my google stats counter or whatever it's called, about 75% of you come here true the social medium that is Facebook.
Very soon, there will be a movie about aforementioned social network, a movie called cleverly called... "The Social Network".
According to the trailer (watch below) it seems like a very nice movie featuring exciting business plots, intrigue, heroic character Mark Zuckerman fighting the good fight and I'm guessing there's probably some romantic encounters.

Apart from Justin Timberlake being in the movie playing the part of Napster CEO Sean Parker there's another interesting musical note (pun intended) in this movie worth blogging. Trent Reznor, the guy from the band Nine Inch Nails, not to be confused with the classic Gay Porn piece of art Nine Inch Males , took care of the sound track. A five song teaser off that soundtrack can be downloaded here and sounds hella interesting.

#207 Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson Finally Gets A Real Job

You know how there's a thing called midlife crisis. It's something that happens to mostly men in their late 40-ties. All of a sudden they'll just decide that enough is enough, breaking off the shackles that are holding them down and finally persue that rock star career they've been dreaming about.

Well! For Iron Maiden singer bruce Dickinson it's just the other way around as he just landed a fine middle management job at Astraeus, a English charter Airline. Congrats Bruce!

#201 Perfect Youth Crew (door Marcel A. Wiebenga, @marcelawiebenga)

I've created anoher Perfect Compilation. In this case it's a Perfect Youth Crew. I did this to celebrate the fact that Youth of Today will finally be a band I'm going to see live. Liner notes only in Dutch (sorry!) below and the .zip file with the downloads here.

"A.s. dinsdag 21 September 2010 komt er voor mij, Marcel A. Wiebenga (Man/Nederlands/32 jaar), een puber droom in vervulling.

- Marcel

Via Wilbert at Het Zesde Vlak.Ever tried whistling a tune with your friends on half full (or half empty if you're one of those annoying negative people) beer bottles. I have and some other smart people have as well and figured it would be nice to be able to tune your beer bottle. The result is above and more info is here.
I'd love me a case of this so we can have a proper jam sesh...

#194 War Is Suing Pepsi To Buy One MIllion New Low-Riders

70's funk legends War are suing Pepsi for the use of their song "Why Cant We Be Friends" in the latest Pepsi Max commercial. War is claiming 10.000.000 dollares Americanos (that is 10 million!) in damages.
Either War is being greedy or somebody at their agency (BBDO still?) is about to get fired... hard!

#192 R.I.P Mike Edwards & Corneille

Good morning!
Mike Edwards died. "Who?" you say? Mike Edwards, member of seminal British prog-rock outfit ELO, a band in Holland best known for their song "Here Is The News", that's been the station call of public broadcaster VPRO for the past century.
The Electric Light Orchestra cello player died in a freak road incident. The van he was driving was crushed by a 600 kg hay bale. Weird, horrible and sad.

Also Cobra member Corneille died. Sad and I feel that this joke is uncalled for.

#190 Minimalistic Poster Designs for Famous Music Videos

There is a person called Fedrico Mancuso who I think is Italian. He probably was wondering what minimalistic poster designs for music video's would look like and, being the empirist that he is, decided to start making them.
The result scores an 8+ on the Blog010110 Awesomeness-o-meter.
All the the designs can be found on his website and can be yours as well if you spend some dough right here.

#189 Tone-Deaf Dude Singing

Funny right? Well according to Oliver Sachs (that is pronounced OOO-liver Sex) this is an actual disease, so if you were laughing you're a bad person and you'll be swimming in lakes of fire in camp hell after you die a very traumatic death.

Have a nice day.
